Tankless descaling and maintenance
Tankless units need servicing roughly once a year. Mineral scale builds up on the heat exchanger, efficiency drops, error codes start appearing, and most manufacturer warranties require documented annual maintenance — meaning a unit that's never been serviced may not be covered when it fails.
Signs yours is overdue
Water temperature fluctuating during a shower · Reduced flow rate · Error codes on the display · The unit cycling on and off · Longer delay before hot water arrives · It's been over a year
What we do
Flush the heat exchanger with a descaling solution, circulated to dissolve mineral buildup · Clean or replace the inlet filter · Inspect and clean the burner · Check venting and combustion · Check gas pressure · Test flow rate and temperature rise · Clear error codes and verify operation · Written service record — which is what your manufacturer will want on a warranty claim
How often, in Vancouver specifically
Metro Vancouver's water is soft, which genuinely helps — scaling is slower here than in hard-water regions. Annually is still the standard manufacturer requirement and we'd stick to it for warranty reasons, but you'll typically see less scale than the manuals assume.
Some units have isolation valves fitted at installation, which makes servicing quicker and cheaper. If yours doesn't, we can fit them during a service visit and every future one costs less.
