Cambie Village, Riley Park and the streets around Queen Elizabeth Park have one characteristic that sets them apart from every other Vancouver cluster: this is where infill housing is densest. Laneway houses, secondary suites, and duplex conversions on lots that held a single house for eighty years.
That produces a specific kind of plumbing work, and it's most of what we do here.
Laneway houses
A laneway house is a small building at the back of an existing lot, and its plumbing is defined by one thing: how services get to it.
Water supply and sanitary connection usually run from the existing house's services, or occasionally from a new connection. The route, depth and distance drive a meaningful share of the total cost — and it's the item most often underestimated when people budget a laneway build. Establish it before the drawings are final.
Small-footprint design means every metre of pipe run matters. Grouping the bathroom and kitchen — stacking them or putting them back to back — reduces cost and improves performance. That's a drawing-stage decision.
Heating is usually a combi boiler, a mini-split, or in-floor radiant rather than a conventional furnace, because there's no room for ductwork and no need for that capacity.
Hot water is typically a tankless unit or a compact tank, for the same space reason.

The existing houses
Character homes here are largely pre-1940, with the standard westside picture: galvanized supply where unreplaced, clay sewer laterals under mature trees, perimeter drainage at or past end of life.
The Cambie corridor redevelopment has also added newer townhouse and low-rise density along the arterial, which behaves differently again.
The renovation overlap
A large share of infill work here happens alongside a renovation of the main house — and that's the cheapest possible moment to deal with old supply piping. If the walls are open and the house still has galvanized, doing it then costs a fraction of doing it later.
