Gas line installation
We run new gas lines across Metro Vancouver — to ranges, dryers, fireplaces, heaters, BBQs and outdoor appliances. Most residential runs cost $500–$2,500, driven mainly by distance from your existing supply.
Licensed gas fitter. Contractor licence LIC-00215637. Permit pulled and inspection attended as part of the job.
What drives the price
Distance from the existing supply. The single biggest factor. A run of two metres to a range beside an existing line is a different job from a run across a basement and up two floors.
Route and access. Open joists in an unfinished basement are straightforward. A run inside finished walls, through a concrete slab, or around a stairwell is not.
Whether the line needs upgrading. ⚠️ This is the one that surprises people. Adding a significant appliance to an existing system can exceed what the current piping was sized for — most commonly with a tankless water heater, which often needs ¾" where a tank ran on ½". The upgrade may run back toward the meter, and it can add $1,000–$3,000.
Get the supply assessed before you buy the appliance. It's a free part of the quote and it occasionally changes the decision.
Buried sections, for detached garages, outdoor kitchens or patio features. Depth, bedding and corrosion protection all cost more than an interior run. ⚠️ In Richmond, Queensborough and the low-lying Tri-Cities, the trench may also need managing during the work — a genuine line item that should be quoted rather than discovered.
Meter capacity. Occasionally the meter itself is the constraint rather than the piping, which means involving FortisBC.

Not included unless stated: drywall finishing beyond making good, painting, the appliance itself, and electrical work beyond what a gas fitter is permitted to do.
Sizing matters more than people think
A gas line isn't sized for the appliance in isolation — it's sized for the total connected load and the length of the run. Undersized piping produces appliances that don't reach their rated output, pilot outages, and combustion problems that present as something else entirely.
If someone has previously added an appliance without recalculating the system, that's a real thing we find. It's also why we ask what else is on your gas before quoting.
Our scope: Gas appliances up to 120 kW (about 400,000 BTU/h) input — all residential equipment and most light commercial. Larger central systems need a Class A gas fitter. If your job is over that line we'll tell you when you call.
Why the permit matters
Gas work in BC requires a licensed gas fitter and, in almost all cases, a permit and inspection.
The inspection checks venting, and venting is a carbon monoxide question. Unpermitted gas work is also an insurance problem, and it surfaces at resale.
⚠️ If a quote is dramatically cheaper than ours, ask two things: is the permit included, and what's the gas fitter's certificate number?
