What a gas line installation costs in Vancouver

Running a new gas line in Metro Vancouver typically costs $500–$2,500 for most residential jobs. A short run to a range or dryer near the existing supply sits at the bottom of that; a long run to a detached patio or a line upgrade for a tankless heater sits at the top or above.

These are market ranges for Metro Vancouver, not a quote. They’re here so you can plan and compare, and they’re reviewed quarterly. Big jobs genuinely vary — access, materials, what’s behind the wall, what’s above the pipe. We won’t quote one without seeing it, and neither should anyone else. Where we publish a fixed price, it’s fixed.
What moves the price

What decides where in the range you land

Distance from the existing supply

The single biggest factor — it's mostly pipe and labour.

Route and access

A run through an open basement ceiling is cheap. Through finished walls, under a floor, or across a concrete patio is not.

Pipe size required

A tankless water heater or a high-input appliance may need a larger line than your existing supply, which sometimes means upgrading back to the meter.

Whether the meter can supply it

Adding appliances can exceed the meter's capacity, which means involving FortisBC.

Indoor or outdoor

Exterior runs need appropriate materials and burial depth where underground.

Permit and inspection

Required. Included in our quote.
